Access to UMC's Library Resources

As a college in the High School student at UMC you have the same access to the UMC Library's resources as do the faculty and students who access the resources on campus.  When you use these materials from your home or high school you may have to log in at the beginning of a session using your assigned username and password. If you have not set up your username and password see the instructions at the bottom of this page.


UMC Library provides wide range of library services to students and faculty.  Most useful for those working at a distance are the research databases that can be accessed remotely. For general information about the UMC Library and the services it provides, you can start at the UMC library homepage at

You will find that two of the large databases are a good places to start your research :

Ebsco MegaFile - EBSCO MegaFILE is a multi-disciplinary database providing full text for nearly 12,000 total publications and indexing & abstracting for more than 16,000 publications. In addition, the database contains more than 84,000 biographies, 86,000 primary source documents, 10,000 company profiles and an image collection of more than 107,000 photos, maps and flags.

InfoTrac OneFile - A one-stop source for news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social science, sports, technology, and many general interest topics. Millions of full-text articles, many with images.

The UMC library homepage has a link to a list of the UMC Library databases.  You can choose to view the list alphabetically or arranged by subject.  Subjects include:

UMC Library subject specific databases

UMC Library subscribes to many databases in addition to the el,databases. Many of these are specialized for specific majors like Sports Discus - Hospitality and Tourism Index -Criminal Justice Periodicals - Communication & Mass Media Complete - Agricultural Journals - Biological Abstracts - BioOne  - Computer Database - Education Journals MLA International Bibliography In addition the UMC Library subscribes to a number of very large full text journal collections including IEEE - JSTOR - SpringerLink Project Muse -Wiley InterScience   ScienceDirect.

FindIt linking

The UMC Library also gets access to many more full text articles in the databases listed above. UMC Library is able to link these resources togather so that if full text is available in a journal collection or databases it will be available in all the databases. This is a very powerful tool and makes finding the text of an article much easer. FindIt  findIt logot the linking service is only available to College in the High School students while on campus and off campus only if you have a UMC username and password

Getting your UMC username and password

To get your username and password go to and type in your name to get your username. After you get that information go to and enter the information on the form to set your password. Remember that your password must be eight characters or more, have an uppercase letter, a lower case letter AND a number or symbol. It also cannot be part of your name or a dictionary word. For more information go to the Remote access to databases page
