UMC Library mobile access resources

There are several ways to access a UMC databases from a web enabled mobile device.  Some websites recognize your device and automatically use the site's mobile interface others require you actively select the mobile site and require that you autheticate to get access to full text..  Some of the database vendors have provisions for the UMC Library to create unique url that provides mobile access. Some vendors have mobile apps in their app store. Below we have tried to set out the various details. We have put this icon  icon for mobile in the Databases list which links to the details of access..

Gale AccessMyLibrary College Edition

GALE's app AccessMyLibrary College Edition is vailable for iPhone®, iPod Touch® and iPad®. The download is free on Itunes. After you have installed the application you must select a state. Once you have done this you will see a list of college libraries. University of Minnesota, Crookston is listed.  You will be required to register using your UMC email address.  A password will be emailed to you. Use it to login.  You will only have to do this once.

Ebsco Host mobile site

Mobile devices can access Ebsco two ways. One is to use the icon found on the UMC database page. This is a link to the Ebsco host web interface. This link is created by the Library with Ebsco's help and has authentication built in so you can get to the text in the various databases.

Ebsco iPhone, iPad or Android app

The second way to access is to install the Iphone,Ipad or Android app. To do this requires that you use the link at the bottom of any Ebsco databases. After installing the app on your device, it must be authenticated. This is a one time process. To authenticate the EBSCOhost app log into EBSCOhost.from one campus or after logging in from off campus and click on the link below at the web site,


Click the link at the link is on the bottom of the page in any of the Ebsco databases and enter your email address.

An email with an authentication key is sent to you.
Access the email from your device and click the link found in the email to authenticate the application.
You have 24 hours to access the key from your device to authenticate the app. If the key is not used within 24 hours, it expires and you will need a new key.

SciVerse ScienceDirect App


Individuals at institutions whose libraries subscribe to SciVerse ScienceDirect online can access the same journals and books in that subscription from an iPhone, Android and Blackberry smartphones.

SciVerse ScienceDirect is a leading full-text scientific database offering journal articles and book chapters from more than 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and more than 11,000 books. There are currently over 9.5 million articles/chapters.

Your institution must be subscribed to SciVerse ScienceDirect. You will need to provide your username and password as registered at sciencedirect.com and your institutional e-mail address. Once you have supplied this information, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. You must click on the link provided in this e-mail to activate your access to SciVerse ScienceDirect iPhone application. You will only need to confirm your email once.

SciVerse ScienceDirect Premium app is available to institutional subscribers only The iPad. version requires iOS 4.2 or later. The Premium version is also available to for iPhone and Android phones. SciVerse Scopus mobile app

Use this app to keep current by using alerts for keywords you regularly search and to track citation of articles you follow. The app permits you to add articles to your "Favorites", send an article or list of articles via email, make notes on your favorite articles.

Individuals at institutions whose libraries subscribe to SciVerse ScienceDirect online can access the same journals and books in that subscription from an iPhone, Android and Blackberry smartphones. This app is a companion to SciVerse ScienceDirect mobile.

To use this app your institution must be subscribed to SciVerse ScienceDirect. You must register while on the universities network. You will need to provide your username and password as registered at sciencedirect. and your institutional e-mail address. Once you have supplied this information, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. You must click on the link provided in this e-mail to activate your access to SciVerse ScienceDirect iPhone application. You will only need to confirm your email once.

Springerimages app

 

The SpringerLink app provide access to Springer's database of articles on topics every in science, technology and medicine. The SpringerImages app searches the SpringerImages database of photos, diagrams, graphs, figures and tables taken from Springer's ebook collection and journal portfolio . Search image captions, keywords and references to locate an image. SpringerImages app provides three levels of access to the SpringerImages database. Access to Springer's Open Access images are provided at no charge

BioOne's website (http://www.bioone.org ) recognizes that you are using a mobile devise to access and transfers you to its mobile interface.

You have access to full text content on the university's wi-fi network If you want access off campus you will need a pairing code. For detailed instructions, please download the guide to pair your device. Your device will be paired with your institution's subscription for 90 days, repeat the pairing process in 90 days to continue to access BioOne from your device .

There is a BioOne Mobile Quick Start Guide which is quite useful.

With SciFinder Mobile, there's no app to download and no IP address restrictions. To access you must have established a SciFinder username and password and use it to log in.

There are only abstracts no full text.

ISI's Web of Knowledge is a site that combines search access to Biosis Previews, Biological Abstracts and the Web of Science. The mobile site is at http://m.webofknowledge.com.libproxy.umcrookston.edu This mobile site is aimed at the phone users. A tablet would be better off using the full site in most cases.

The standard Web of Knowledge site does not recognize mobile browsers as such so the Web of Knowledge mobile site must be accessed directly. Access to full text and links requires authentication either by IP (on campus) or username/password log in (off campus),

JSTOR logo JSTOR mobile beta site

JSTOR - Provides access to the backfiles of journals in many disciplines including the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The UMC Library subscribes to the journals in the Arts & Sciences Collection I. Search interface for JSTOR is at http://mobile.jstor.org/

This interface is a labeled as a Beta interface. It is easy to send an email with a link to the article for later reading.

Annual Reviews mobile site

 

Users can now browse, search, and read full-text content anytime, anywhere on the Annual Reviews mobile site. Visit www.annualreviews.org from a mobile device to:

Browse and Search journals by keyword, author or title or browse

With an institutional subscription you read full-text articles, download articles to your mobile phone for offline reading and Share articles and links via Social Networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)

To access full-text articles from journals browse to http://www.annualreviews.org while on UMC's wi-fi network.

From outside the local  network you can Manually Pairing Your Device to UMC's Subscriptions
You can manually pair your mobile device by logging in below from an on campus computer to request a pairing code. Once you have received your pairing code, access the Annual Reviews mobile website, go to Settings → Device Pairing, and enter the code when prompted.

   SCIRUS mobile site

SCIRUS is an Elsevier maintained website. SCIRUS is a research tool for finding scientific information and evaluated "Preferred web" sites. It searches over 440 million indexed scientific items. Included are not only journal content but also scientists' homepages, courseware, pre-print server material, patents and institutional repositories and websites.

Access to journal articles from Wiley-Blackwell, ScienceDirect depend on your institutions subscriptions. SCIRUS mobile site also searches digital archive sites and contains technical reports, agriculture extension reports, university publications. Many other science web results are included.
