Access to UMC's Library Resources


As a college in the High School student at UMC you have the same access to the UMC Library's resources as do the faculty and students who access the resources on campus.  When you use these materials from your home or high school you may have to log in at the beginning of a session using your assigned username and password. You can saave time by logging in on the UMC Library homepage. If you have not set up your username and password see the instructions at the bottom of this page.

Databases

UMC Library provides wide range of library services to students and faculty.  Most useful for those working at a distance are the research databases that can be accessed remotely. For general information about the UMC Library and the services it provides, you can start from the UMC Library Homepage.

Ebsco MegaFile - EBSCO MegaFILE is a multi-disciplinary database providing full text for nearly 12,000 total publications and indexing & abstracting for more than 16,000 publications. In addition, the database contains more than 84,000 biographies, 86,000 primary source documents, 10,000 company profiles and an image collection of more than 107,000 photos, maps and flags.

Points of View Reference Center - is an Ebsco full-text database designed to provide students with a series of essays that present multiple sides of a current issue. The database provides 255 topics, each with an overview (objective background/description), point (argument),counterpoint (opposing argument), and Critical Thinking Guide.

UMC Library subject specific databases

UMC Library subscribes to many databases in addition to the elm databasedatabases. Many of these are specialized for specific majors:

Sports Discus - Hospitality and Tourism Index  - Proquest Criminal Justice Periodicals- Communication & Mass Media Complete - ProQuest Agricultural Science Collection - Biological Abstracts - BioOne  - Computer Database  - ProQuest Education Journals- MLA International Bibliography 

In addition the UMC Library subscribes to a number of very large full text journal collections including|

IEEE - JSTOR - SpringerLink - Project Muse - Wiley Online Library  -  ScienceDirect.

UMC Resources

Research, Citation, & Writing Resources including APA Format 6th Edition Cribsheet and What is a Scholarly Journal? 

UMC Print Periodicals  An  alphabetical list of the print(paper) journals and magazines the UMC Libra ray owns.  If an article can not be found online you can request it through ILL and we will deliver it to you onliine.

You can search the Library Catalog for books on campus and Library Catalog Plus books on campus and ebooks. We have more than 60,000 recent ebooks

FindIt  Linking

You have access to elm database databases using the links on the Fertile - Beltrami Library Media Center links.  UMC has many more databases and many of these a specific to a subject area. UMC Library has many links to full text using FindIt findit logo .in the record. FindIt  findIt logo linking service is only available to College in the High School students while on UMC campus and off campus only if you log  in  using your UMC username and password

Getting your UMC username and password

To get your username and password go to www.umn.edu/lookup and type in your name to get your username. After you get that information go to https://www.umn.edu/initiate and enter the information on the form to set your password. Remember that your password must be eight characters or more, have an uppercase letter, a lower case letter AND a number or symbol. It also cannot be part of your name or a dictionary word.
